Counting Down

So 2008 is coming to an end and it's safe to say....GOOD RIDDANCE!

It's been a mediocre year.

Positive Highlights of the year: the birth of my lil' niece Sarah (no not Justin's baby....My best friend Mike's baby), liberating myself from tyrannical rule of Honda and securing a better job with Motorola (which is kind of sketchy ATM with the current economy), traveled to Hawaii, Houston and New York (this was truly a treat for me because I rarely get to travel) and I got permission to resume spearfishing and freediving after being told to stay out of the water for half a year.

Negative:  Bad news, bad news, bad news, and more bad news. (don't worry about it, I'll tell you guys about it in due time), lost a friend to an auto accident, learned the hard way that some things just aren't meant to be, (hope is a good thing but not necessarily the smartest thing) and severely sprained my ankle.

Also made some changes like retiring from the nightclub scene which is something that I've been looking to do for awhile.  It was half forced, and half by choice and overall I think it was the best thing for me to do even though my life is terribly uneventful nowadays.

I guess the best thing to do now is to just keep a positive attitude going into 2009 and just to hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Also, I should probably start my Christmas shopping pretty soon. I'm not looking forward to it at all.

The Club Fart

Most of us including you females out there are guilty of it.  You're up in the club, you need to pass gas, so you wait till the opportune moment when the music is blasting and the bass is hitting hard to let it loose.  Of course after you do so, you have to quickly exit the area before anyone catches a whiff of it.

Well last night, I fell victim to the club fart.  I was standing there enjoying the music, sipping on my grey goose on the rocks when this sour odor hit my nose.  It didn't help that the ventilation was bad so the air was stuffy and humid with the sweat from all the drunken partiers.  It smelled like a true, sweaty, swamp ass fart mixed in with the B.O. that was already present in the air.  So powerful that I think I even tasted it and gagged on it for a second.  I looked around to try to discover the culprit, n' noticed that I was surrounded by girls.  Did one of these girls fart and hope that the only guy in the area would be the scapegoat???  So I made this disgusted face as I sniffed the air and looked around, hoping someone would notice how disgusted I looked.  My acting skills didn't pay off because I think that I was the only one that smelled it.  So yea...Gross.

Sunday

Sunday sucked.  Woke up with a hangover...again....Walked across the street in the rain to the nearest ABC mart to stock up on cookies and macadamia nut candy for my coworkers.  Got to the airport at around noon only to find out that our flight was delayed a few hours.  Didn't know what to do so we called up some girls that we met a few nights earlier and they picked us up from the airport n' took us around to kill some time.  We were amazed at how hospitable they were to us.  As a matter of fact, my friend asked one of them why they would go out of their way for out of towners.  She said she just likes doing good things for people in hopes that good things will happen to her.  Good philosophy, I wish more LA people had that mentality.

Out of all the places to eat, they took us to this hole in the wall Pho joint that was packed with people.  It was probably the worst tasting pho that I've ever eaten.  I told them that when they come visit, I'll take them to Lil' Saigon and we could get some REAL pho.  After eating, we did a little more shopping before going back to the airport and flying home.  It was really depressing stepping back into reality.  It's only been a week and I want to go back already.

Rest In Peace Garrett Ogushi -

Received some tragic news while I was on the plane.  Randy texted me telling me about how our friend Garrett passed away the night before, a victim of a hit and run accident on the 405.  The outpour of support from his friends and the community are a testament as to how good of a person he was.  It's been a great honor and privilege to have known him.

For those of you that knew him and haven't heard yet.  Here's the info for this weekend.

Hawaii Part 3

Saturday

Gathered up the troops at around noon to go return our mopeds.  We had originally planned on getting an early start on the day so we could rent a car and hit the north shore, but everyone was too hungover.  Those $3 double crown shots were killer.  A few of us wanted some few last precious moments to bond with our mopeds so we drove up and down our parking structure like a bunch of jackasses.  I was being stupid and took a corner too fast and too wide and headed straight for a wall.  I tried to avoid it by slamming on the brakes and turning sharply at the same time.  I ate shit. When my friends found me I was immobile on the floor of the parking structure with my moped on top of me.  Luckily I didn't have any major injuries, just some minor scratches that hurt like hell.

After returning the bikes we stumbled onto this hotdog spot that one of our friends recommended, Puka Dog. Their hotdogs were different because they had different types of tropical fruity relishes and sauces.  It wasn't the greatest, especially for the price.  I think a hotdog and a drink came out to about $10 not to mention it was about a half an hour wait to get our food.

The rest of the day was a disappointment.  Most of our group just wanted to sleep because they were hungover.  Me n' a couple other guys headed to the beach to relax in the sun and take advantage of our last day there.  After the beach we headed to the International Marketplace to look around and shop a bit.  Somehow we ended up in a windchime store n' my friend tried hitting on the cute worker there with the greatest pickup line ever.  "Uhh so...do you work here?"  (he asked this as she was stocking the shelves)  She looked up at us and said "yeah...." waiting for him to ask her another question but he didn't know what to say so she gave us this puzzled look and walked away.  After walking around and not finding anything worth buying, we went in search of a cool t-shirt store that we walked past a couple the previous day.  After half an hour of wandering around aimlessly, we found it.  Alter-Ego.  This store is the shit!!!!!!!  I walked out with some new shirts and hats.  I was disappointed to find out that they only have stores in Hawaii..

Afterwards we ate at the steakhouse located downstairs in our hotel.  I ordered the Hawaiian style Ono steak and King crab combo.  It was pretty good, and our server was comedy because she kept on making sarcastic comments at John.

The destination that night was Pearl Nightclub at Ala Moana.  We made plans to book a 2 bottle table but a couple of our friends flaked out so we canceled a bottle.  We went inside n' were majorly disappointed by the crowd.  It was an older crowd, mostly mixed.  We were expecting the young asian crowd that we used to party with back in the Oceans days.  (Oceans was a really popular spot there a few years ago)  It was so bad that we just walked out on our table before we even ordered our bottles.  Didn't know where to go so we headed to Monkey Bar because we heard it might be promising.  Compared to Pearl, this was the promise land.  My brother lost his ID the night before so we were forced to sit outside and stare at every girl that walked in there.  It was torture.  We had no other options so we went back to Pearl.  They were pretty pissed at us for walking out on our table so they taxed us with a two bottle table to get inside.  Once again. the rest of the night was a blur.

Me, my bro, kitty kat and holly.  Holly was super nice but a little delusional.  She told us that she recently signed a million dollar acting contract for something and her dad is a billionaire.  Oh and she offered to pick us up in her private jet in August for some super huge party that she was planning on putting together.  She told my bro that she's too busy to do her myspace so her assistant does it for her.  His response  "Bitch do you know who I am?  I'm a local celebrity!"  (My brother is just as delusional as she was.)
